Nigeria Energy Transition Fund
Attracting foreign direct investment into Nigeria’s energy sector. Conceived by the Centre as a pioneer blueprint for blended finance in Nigeria’s energy transition.
The idea
NETFUND champions a blended-finance framework: public, concessional and private capital combined in one vehicle to bring foreign direct investment into Nigeria’s energy sector. The blueprint rests on two pillars:
- Domestic gas as a transition fuel, using Nigeria’s own gas to displace diesel and petrol generation while cleaner supply is built.
- Decentralised renewables at scale: mini-grids and distributed solar that reach homes and businesses the national grid does not.
Grema Sulaiman, the Centre’s Founder and Chairman, conceptualised the fund. It sits within CEII’s wider practice of designing sovereign and blended-finance vehicles.
Status: proposed. NETFUND is not yet open to investors or applicants, and no one is authorised to collect money in its name.
